This is the fist of many more university projects to come! As part of our "skills training fortnight" My class of 4 have been set the task of making a 'Planet of the Apes' - inspired mask/bust. The clay sculpture is founded on a small mound of plaster cloth coated polystyrene- sealed with shellac. From these sculpts I hope to make a glass fibre and polyester resin cast. A last minute commision in the woods of Lattitude Festival. Installation for the popular culture festival Latitude. http://www.latitudefestival.com/ With less than a weeks notice I knew my installation had to be simple but powerful. The theme of the piece was Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) - a Mexican holliday celebration of the dead.
